Sasha Mishod: Glovo delivers really good quality service

Glovo international  delivery service entered the Armenian market at the end of last year. In a few months, the company had a great success in Armenia. Glovo is a pioneering multi-delivery application and it is one of the world’s leading shipping platforms. Through the application the users can buy, collect  and send any product at any time in the city.

Sasha Mishod the company’s co-founder is in Yerevan these days. We talked to him about Glovo’s success, advantages and future plans.

– Mr. Mishod, we would like to learn the story of “Glovo” from you. When, where and how did it all start?

– The story of “Glovo” started in early 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. We launched the first version of the application in March of the same year in Barcelona. Our Head Office also was founded in Spain. The founders are me and Oscar Pierre. From the very beginning we developed very fast, we expanded in Europe: Italy, Portugal, and then Poland and the Balkan region. And so we got to this region: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and recently Armenia. Today Glovo is available in 25 countries around the world, including 7 African countries. We operate in 1,500 cities around the world, with 3,500 employees and 75,000 couriers. In total, we have 150 thousand partners – shops, restaurants, retailers, who sell on our platform. To sum up, we have 18 million active customers.

Are there any plans to expand this year as well?

– Currently we are considering two regions: this region and Africa. We are also expanding our activities in the countries where we are operating already. You see, we work in two cities of Georgia and two of  Armenia: Yerevan and Gyumri, but we mean to expand and work other cities here as well.

– What additional services do you offer to the consumers?

– We were multicuttery from the very first day, which makes us more competitive. Our activity is multifaceted. Restaurants, yes, are our biggest branch, grocery stores are the second. We work with both large and small supermarkets, large chains, specialty stores, as well as pharmacies. We also provide emergency service, which works at night. For example, we can bring you your key if you left it somewhere, pick up the kids from school, and so on.

– What is the secret of your success?

– I think the multifaceted work with local teams in different countries,  different cultures,  different languages. The best partners and good service are also the key to our success.

– How long has Glovo been operating in Armenia, what does it offer to consumers?

– We started working in Armenia in September last year. I think we have brought really good quality service. It was very funny. When we started our business in Armenia, customers would order their lunch at 10:00 in the morning. and, of course we delivered it in 30 minutes with  shaurma or any other kind of dish for lunch and they said the it was very early because they were used to  wait for  2 or 3 hours for delivery. So I think the first thing is really good service. Our customers can follow the delivery process through the app, when the shipper picked up the product, where it arrived, etc. I think it’s very important, maybe you’re doing something, you want to know exactly when the product will arrive. I believe that the best partners և excellent service are the key to our success. We have become a part of the city, that says a lot. We have 300 couriers and 400 partners working in Armenia, 90% of which are small businesses. I think this is very important. Here we can say we are just beginning. We have good examples in neighboring countries. It’s more than just business. We have had a huge growth in Armenia as well and it is continuous. There is a great team and I’m really delighted and excited.
