From startup acceleration to blockchain technologies: the prospects of cooperation between Armenia and the Dubai Silicon Oasis

There are great opportunities for cooperation between Armenia and Dubai. Prospective partnership projects are possible in a multitude of fields. Bilateral cooperation programs in the field of IT are underway and will be implemented in the coming years, the impact of which will be significant on some branches of the RA economy.” This is the opinion of Hans Henrik Christensen, Senior Director Dubai Silicon Oasis, who is on an working visit to Armenia.

Within the framework of the visit at the invitation of Made in Armenia NGO, Mr. Christensen had meetings with the RA Ministry of Economy, the RA Ministry of Information Technologies, ISTC Foundation, the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE), the Union of Employers of Information and Communication Technology (UEICT) and leading enterprises of the IT sector, and also visited the Tumo Innovation Center.

“The IT sector in Armenia has a great potential for development. We are considering cooperation with Dubai in various fields, starting from the support of IT start-ups, attracting investments for their development to opening branches of Armenian IT companies in Dubai and vice versa, as well as the involvement of Armenian developers in the projects implemented in Dubai,” he said as another direction of partnership is the development of blockchain technologies.

Hayk Vardanyan, the Founding President of Blokcentro, a company specializing in blockchain ecosystems and tokenization projects in Dubai, in turn, referred to the trends in the development of tokenization and blockchain technologies and their use in the global economy. “It is possible to tokenize, i.e. digitize, any asset: gold, real estate, shares, government bonds or, for example, a start-up project. Those assets, not being physical, can circulate in the global market with unprecedented ease, creating an economy without borders” he said.

Implementation of projects in Armenia is planned through Made in Armenia NGO.
