Viva-MTS: NB-IOT network operating via 4G/LTE/GSM networks launched in pilot mode
The Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network is undergoing pilot testing in Armenia. Launched by Armenia’s leading telecommunications and digital services provider, this thin-band RF technology is specifically designed for the Internet of Things (IoT). The Narrow Band IoT network is designed to connect various autonomous devices and equipment to mobile networks.
In the modern world, the Internet of Things is an integral part of people’s lives, governments and business entities. Simply put, IoT is a network that connects devices and equipment connected to the Internet that collect and exchange information according to tasks and specific environments. These devices are equipped with sensors and work based on software. Temperature sensors, smart locks, barometers, medical sensors, smart security systems, water meters, energy meters, vibration sensors, air quality sensors, etc.: all of these devices and hardwares are part of the IoT ecosystem.
Narrow Band IoT is an IoT standard developed by 3GPP for mobile networks. The “NB-IoT” network can work both for the equipment of the 4G/LTE mobile network and through the GSM system.
NB-IօT has the following advantages:
- Energy saving, which is one of the main indicators of the Internet of Things.
- Network power: able to connect thousands of devices and equipment to the main mobile station.
- Relatively low price of equipment.
- Better signal penetration in tunnels, dungeons, or rural areas, allowing you to connect a wide variety of devices.
- NB IoT is used in different areas: various applications of the same network around the world are used by enterprises and households, as well as individual consumers. Utilities include detectors, trash cans, meters, smart farming, logistics management and a number of other applications are widespread in the industry.
“The introduction of this innovative network for the Internet of Things in the Armenian market will open new prospects for business activities and will significantly stimulate the further development of a number of areas. As a result, routine and everyday life of a person will become more comfortable. Thanks to the operation of mobile networks, the NB IoT network is becoming more and more accessible for applications,” said Viva-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian.
Operating through a mobile network, the NB IoT network offered by Viva-MTS, allows enterprises increasing the efficiency of operations and reduce costs (including electricity), make the use of complex autonomous devices available over long distances, and provides many other benefits that are important for solving the problems of the digital age.
