A look at inclusiveness through art
Break stereotypes, reject indifference, be optimistic and united, regardless of circumstances. For more than three decades, the “Paros” choir has been sharing this message with society through various platforms, including international stages. Their latest initiative to shift perceptions and make a positive impact took place in Tavush, in the format of a flash mob. Video
“Paros” is one of a kind – inclusive. Many of its singers are wheelchair users or have other disabilities. Although their abilities may differ, they are united by common goals and a determination to achieve them. Here, music is not only a means of psychological rehabilitation, but also a bridge to inclusivity. At “Paros”, everyone is heard, respected, and self-confident. They have gone a successful path, making Armenians and Armenian identity recognized in different circles. They are convinced that with mutual understanding and willingness to support one another, any goal can be achieved and success is guaranteed.
“The mission of the “Paros” Chamber Choir is to proudly represent the Armenian cultural heritage on international stages and, through our example, inspire people with disabilities in Armenia to live full, independent, and creative lives. Thanks to Viva’s long-term support, we have achieved significant artistic growth, won prestigious competitions and are continuously promoting inclusivity both in the capital and in the regions. Today’s flash mob is another step forward on this journey. If you have the will and believe in your abilities, any obstacle can be overcome,” said Armen Alaverdyan, director of the “Unison” NGO and the “Paros” Chamber Choir.
“Paros”, operating under the “Unison” NGO, is widely recognized throughout the country. For three decades, “Paros” has showcased chamber music in the best possible way on the big stages both in Armenia and abroad (Lebanon, Georgia, Great Britain, Italy, Vatican, France, Austria, Slovakia, Latvia, Russia), demonstrating high professionalism and the willpower to overcome challenges through music. By its example, “Paros” sends a message to people with disabilities: to live fully and create. Art is not only a means of self-expression, but also a life-giving force.
Since 2011, Viva, the leading telecommunications operator, has been the main partner of “Paros”.
